SechMed Hosts 'Right First Time' Lunch & Learn at ATU iHubs Galway
It All Begins Here
Galway, Ireland – Wednesday 22nd April 2026 – SechMed, in partnership with ATU iHubs Galway, successfully delivered a Lunch & Learn session focused on the early stages of medical device development, helping innovators understand what it takes to move from initial concept to a structured, credible development programme.
Held at ATU iHubs Galway, the event brought together a diverse group of founders, researchers, and engineers working across a range of medtech projects. SechMed's CEO Shane MacNally and Director of QA/RA Ed Hyland led the session, drawing on their extensive experience guiding medical devices from early concept through to CE marking and FDA clearance. The discussion centred on practical strategies for structuring development pathways, aligning prototype work with regulatory expectations, and avoiding the costly delays that arise when projects advance without the right foundations in place.
Shane MacNally, CEO of SechMed, commented:
"Many early device projects lose time and funding not because the idea isn’t strong, but because the development pathway isn’t clearly structured from the beginning. Our aim is to help founders put the right engineering and regulatory foundations in place early so they can realise their medical devices in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible"
Turlough Rafferty, Innovation Centre Manager at ATU iHubs, added:
"Supporting early-stage medtech innovation means connecting founders with people who have real experience of bringing devices through the full development process. It was great to welcome SechMed to ATU iHubs to share practical insights with our innovation community and highlight how early planning can make a significant difference to project success.."
The event was jointly organised by SechMed and ATU iHubs, forming part of an ongoing collaboration to support medtech innovation across the West of Ireland.
